How To Make Mother's Day All About Mum

04 May 2023 0 Comments
Mothers Day

Motherhood is a rewarding and fulfilling journey, but it's no secret that it can be overwhelming at times.

As mums, we tend to prioritise our family's needs over our own, and neglecting our own self-care in the process. With Mother's Day around the corner, it's the perfect time to show some appreciation to yourself by taking some time off not only from your routine, but also the cognitive labour of the mental load! It's crucial to remember that taking care of yourself is not selfish, but necessary for your mental and physical well-being.

I've put together some ideas for you, or hints for the family, to celebrate Mother's Day, so, take a deep breath, relax, and let's dive into the ways you can make this day all about you!

Treat yourself to a cleaning service: Are you always the default person for cleaning? Then let someone else take care of it for a change, and give yourself a break. If your partner and kids won't take action, don't let it slide, do it for yourself.

Plan a spa day: You really do deserve some pampering after the challenges of the daily mental load. Relax and unwind with a massage, facial or other treatment. You deserve some special self-care.

Ask for a homemade gift: Encourage your kids to create a heartfelt gift for you, such as a photo album filled with memories, or a gratitude journal all about you! Especially if they are on a tight budget - it is a great activity and gets them thinking about and appreciating how awesome you are.

Plan a fun outing: Get out of the house and do something fun, whether it's a trip to the zoo with your family, a girls weekend with friends, or maybe you want some alone time? Think of it as a great way to foster connection with others or yourself!

Be the special guest in your own restaurant: If the dinner time cooking routine falls to you, then it's about time to take the night off. Seriously you should NOT be cooking on Mother's Day, unless of course you love it?! If you are not being taken out to dinner then put your feet up and let the family take over. Let the kids have some fun preparing and designing a menu, cooking and serving. Your partner can supervise if they need it, AND help them clean up. It's not your problem!

And if you are not doing it already - WHY NOT?! - take some time for yourself: Whether it's reading a book, taking a bubble bath, going for a walk in nature, or doing something else you enjoy, make sure to carve out some time for yourself to recharge and relax.

Remember, taking care of yourself is not selfish, it's necessary for your well-being and Mother's Day is all about celebrating, and showing gratitude, for the hard work and love that you put into your family every day. It is absolutely necessary to prioritise your needs, so you have the capacity to steer your family through life's daily challenges.
